A Witnessing Board

A temporary archive to hold space for the things that were not held.

Community often moves on before the folks within it do. This is a space to give form to the lingering disappointments, recurring offenses, and the moments where the community chose complacency over dialogue. This isn't a call-out board or a space to process trauma. Nor should posting here replace conversation where conversation is welcomed. The purpose of this board is to witness and be witnessed. To platform what our community does not always adequately address—the negative and the positive—allowing these experiences to exist in the light for a moment before they are let go.Though the intent of this board is wholly to reflect and not to act, I hope that through witnessing, at least one of us can find motivation, relief, or closure.

To best manage scope, this board is intended for queer and/or BIPOC community members in, or connected to, the Southern California kink community. Please only submit an entry if you belong to those communities. All who care about the community are welcomed in the audience.

Guidelines

  • Maximum 250 words. Short poetry or brief art forms are welcome if the work is your own.

  • No names, initials, or specific locations. Avoid descriptions of settings or people that serve as deliberate identifiers.

  • Entries should focus on the impact of the experience or the community’s response, rather than the "badness" of a specific person or organization.

  • You may submit multiple entries, but please self-limit to a maximum of 3.

  • Ending with statement or question intended for community reflection is encouraged and optional.

This space can also be used to share your hopes for the community, or supportive words and actions you have not yet been able to share.

Please hold space for where you currently are in your journey. This space is more suited to share small slights and points of reflection than to share significant harm, especially if unresolved. If you find it difficult to create an entry with the above restraints, this may not be the time or project for your hurt.

They created an environment where I was constantly in distress. And they shamed me for it.

I put so much energy in to connecting with you, and I don't think you saw me at all. I learned a lot from you, though, so thank you for that.

I wish I could tell someone how much their kindness has done for me, but I don't know how to say it.
